Bio

Noriko Fukushima competed in the Vancouver Olympics as a member of the Japanese national ski cross team and competed in numerous world championships before retiring in 2013. Since then she has skied mountains all over the world​,​ broadening her skiing horizons without being restricted by genre. Currently​,​ she and her husband​,​ Tadasu Fukushima​,​ are active in Mauka outdoor​,​ which they founded. They also run a lodge with their own farm and rice paddies​,​ offering a sustainable stay. A mother of three​,​ she is also known for her cooking skills. Noriko gives private ski lessons during the ski season and actively organizes tours and camps for the safe promotion of backcountry skiing and powder skiing​,​ especially for women and girls.

Q: What is your most memorable experience in nature?

The last time I skied at Mt. Baldy, Alaska. The snow conditions, the feeling, the speed of the wind. I was able to complete one run where everything clicked together.

Q: What does nature represent to you?

It is a beautiful thing that cannot be replaced by anything else.

Q: What has nature taught you?

Don't force yourself. Have the courage to stop.

Q: What do you hope that people will get out of experiences with you as a guide?

By placing yourself in nature and feeling something out of the ordinary, you will be reunited with yourself, which will make you smile in an honest way. In this way, we hope you can broaden your enjoyment of skiing and have a rich time.
