Itinerary

You’ll be collected from your accommodation in a private vehicle at a start time of your choosing. From there, you’ll head to the most suitable resort for the day’s conditions and your experience level. After a safety briefing, you’ll head out into the backcountry to find the best lines and snow of any given day. Guests usually opt to maximize turn time by bringing a packed lunch, and the guide will continue to seek out virgin lines until you tire or the lifts close!

Requirements

Participant Skills: Our backcountry tours are for those who can competently ski and board in powder and variable snow conditions. If you would like to try backcountry but are not sure of your level, please feel free to ask us. We can customize the day to suit your level. Skier's Skills: Usually this will mean a minimum strong intermediate level with the ability to link parallel turns on all runs in all snow conditions, negotiate turning in trees, avoiding hazards, following a traverse on skis and being fit enough to hike up. Snowboarder's Skills: Usually this will mean a minimum strong intermediate level with the ability to link toe and heel side turns on all runs in all snow conditions, negotiate turning in trees, avoiding hazards, reading terrain and carrying speed across flats, following a traverse on board and being fit enough to hike up.

Equipment

All our backcountry tours will require touring equipment (touring skis with skins, splitboard with skins or snowshoes), avalanche safety gear (beacon, probe, shovel), backpack (25L minimum), lunch & snacks, water, warm clothes, helmet, goggles, sunglasses, and money for lifts.

Facilities

While most resorts that we start from are well equipped with facilities, the backcountry is not. For this reason, you’ll want to bring food, drink and extra layers, in addition to avalanche and ski equipment.
