Mountain Guide

Bio

At the age of 21, Yuki Ito moved to Canada and began skiing in earnest. Influenced by the North American ski culture and local skiers, he became interested in skiing in local mountain areas. After completing the Yamnaska Mountaineering School, he returned to Japan and joined a mountaineering association to learn more about the mountains. In January 2020, he started his own business. His guiding concept is to "bring more mountains into your life.” In addition to guiding, his goal in mountaineering in Japan and abroad is: “To ski downhill from the top of the mountain where skiers can't climb and where climbers can't go and to become the next Tsugita Tsuneo.”

Guide Q&A

Q: What is your most memorable experience in nature?

It is always a fresh surprise when skiing or climbing in a new area, but the first time I climbed and skied a mountain in Europe was the most memorable. Glaciers, rock walls, gullies–everything was big and steep. I felt the deep appeal of skiing in those mountain areas.

Q: What does nature represent to you?

The indispensable part of life.

Q: What has nature taught you?

To be autonomous, to act.

Q: What do you hope that people will get out of experiences with you as a guide?

I know that everyone is looking for different things from mountain activities, but I want people to experience a sense of accomplishment, of elation, and of healing.
