Director of Gateway Tours

Bio

After thinking that he wanted to travel to various places, Sensai took his high school classes at night so that he could work and have many days off. While still in high school, he spent one summer at an outdoor tour company in Minami Furano, Hokkaido, and moved to the town after graduation. There, he started his own business while also learning to be a guide. He now guides throughout the year, mainly on the rivers of the Bizagawa and Chitosegawa in the area near New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido.

Message

Our tours take place in an area where the "Yufutsu Crossing" used to connect the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan, where you can sense Ainu culture. We offer canoe tours throughout the year to experience the changing seasons while watching the salmon run and migrating birds. Gateway Tours has tours that can be experienced by children as young as 1 year old. This makes it possible for three generations to float down the river together. Another attraction of this tour is that it is only a 10-minute drive from New Chitose Airport, making it easy to access, particularly for people with small children.

Guide Q&A

Q: What is your most memorable experience in nature?

The first time I encountered a brown bear.

Q: What does nature represent to you?

A comfortable place.

Q: What has nature taught you?

The passage of time.

Q: What do you hope that people will get out of experiences with you as a guide?

The areas where I guide are rich in nature, but also close to the city. I want my guests not only to experience nature, but also to be inspired to think about how to preserve the natural environment and how it should be in the future.
