Chad is an outdoor and adventure photographer based in Niseko, Japan's adventure capital on the north Island of Hokkaido. He is the lead photographer and Director of Sea And Summit Media, an outdoor/travel & tourism/adventure media house. Chad is also the lead guide of Sea And Summit Adventures, the adventure tour division of the company. Originally from the USA, he was drawn to Japan for the epic snowfall, which is every bit as good as you’ve heard! But after the snow melted, the year-round adventures of Hokkaido revealed themselves. Easy access to nature, incredibly beautiful and varied landscapes, combined with Chad’s passion for the outdoors and visual arts, made establishing Sea And Summit Media & Adventures in Niseko, an easy choice.

Having spent years exploring the mountains, lakes, rivers and coastlines of Hokkaido, Chad’s love for the island has grown deep. During our tours, we aim to share the beauty of Hokkaido and our passion for its adventures, in a unique way… through immersive experiences and through the camera lens. The only thing that compares to experiencing the awe inspiring and rugged beauty of Hokkaido’s nature, is capturing the experience for our guests.

Ski touring on an active, steaming volcano in Central Hokkaido. Pure magic!

A place to recharge and reconnect and a place of endless creative inspiration.
Q: What has nature taught you?
Nature has taught me to take the time to be present, to observe and absorb the beauty of the world around us and how incredibly lucky we are…. to take time to get out there and be in it… as often as possible. We occupy such a small space in the grand scheme of things. It’s good to feel small and experience that sense of awe.
