Matt is an Australian adventure travel guide based in Amami Island. Matt's focus is on providing unique experiences and creating connections with the locals. From free diving to mountain trekking, Matt's mentors and relationships all over Amami form the backbone of his guiding.
Matt has spent 25 years in Japan and in recent years he has worked closely with National Geographic, History Channel, NHK WORLD Japan, as well as Japan's environment and tourism ministries to promote Amami Island. Matt has guided all walks of life from couples, families and university professors to pro athletes and diplomats.

Itinerary
Day One: Arrive at Amami Oshima
Your guide will greet you at the Amami airport and take you on a coastal drive for lunch before bringing you to your hotel. You will have a chance to talk to your guide over coffee or a meal to go over the trip’s itinerary. There are so many options and activities on the island to choose from.
Day Two: Tsumugi Tour, Mud Dyeing, and Kayaking Tour
Your guide will meet you in the morning and take you to the Oshima tsumugi tour, and then after lunch, you can participate in a traditional mud dyeing experience. Then after driving to a waterfall and through the mountains, you will arrive at the Mangrove Forest, where you can join a kayaking night tour. The day ends with a private outdoor island music dinner.
Day Three: Amami Observation Nature Forest
Take a coastal drive to visit the Amami Oshima Distillery in the morning. Then enter the Amami Observation Nature Forest for a nature walk with great panoramic views and an exploration of local fauna. Alternatively, there are many options in the southern part of the island, such as a jungle tour, fruit farm visit, SUP or snorkeling tour, and lunch on the beach.
Day Four: Depart from Amami Oshima
Go for a snorkeling swim or walk in the morning before a scenic drive back to the airport.
