Takuya Tabira is a Kammu partner guide that gives access to the incredible nature of Yakushima, with the personal philosophy "Don't be surprised when a dead tree blooms, be surprised when a fresh tree blooms".
Takuya is based on one of Japan’s most famous islands for nature, Yakushima. Yakushima is an island located approximately 60 km southwest of Cape Sata on the Osumi Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture. Miyanoura-dake (1936 m above sea level), the highest mountain in Kyushu, is located here. The island is rich in nature and is the core of Yakushima National Park, which is registered as a World Natural Heritage site.
Yakushima is most famous for the Shiratani Unsui Gorge, a trekking spot where visitors can explore the primaeval forest of Yakushima. It is one of the most famous spots for moss in Japan, designated by the Bryophyte Society of Japan as "Japan's precious moss forest," Everything, including stones and trees, is covered with green moss, creating a fantastic world. This forest is said to have been modelled after the primitive forest in the animated film "Princess Mononoke" by director Hayao Miyazaki.

In addition to guiding visitors through the Yakushima, Takuya coordinates photo shoots, and appears in magazines and on TV as a drone cameraman, and is also involved in advertising. In addition, he runs galleryTABIRA, where he organises "forest photo exhibitions" and "forest concerts," as well as summer schools for forestry professionals, photographers, architects, musicians, and picture book authors, connecting people with the forest.
There are many more hidden experiences in Yakushima, and Takuya will guide you through the undiscovered nature of this incredible island.
